With the release of E-Maps 2.0.4, we introduced symbols for thematic layers. When selecting individual or ranged thematic maps, the symbols on the map can be changed. The symbols will be coloured based on the Individual Name or Range.
Save your map project in Excel
The most wanted feature in Excel E-Maps is available now in E-Map Pro. Save your map layers, points, heatmap, thematics in a Project file.
The project file (a file with ’emp’ file-extension) stores information on your Excel spreadsheet, the tab you geocoded, and from release 2.0.5 it even stores drawn objects.
When you open your project file, E-Maps will generate the map layers by automatic geocoding, create thematic shading, plot the labels and will generate the drawn objects in the drawing layer. Using the Project saves you time and reproduces the same maps as you had before.
See how the Project works on youtube.
New heatmap settings
Always wanted to change the colour scheme of the heatmap? Or do you need different colors to emphasize the importance of locations or negative values?
Heatmaps are widely used to analyse and visualise density and intensity of data. E-Maps supports both heatmaps based on density and heatmaps based on a value of the data. Adjust the colours, the ranges and display negative values.
E-Maps has baisc heatmap functionality in all versions. E-Maps Pro has the additional value based heatmaps. Discover the new specifications for heatmaps in Excel E-Maps.
SHP (Shapefile) is a vector file format associated with a geographic information system (GIS) software program. The SHP format was developed by Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute) with the aim of increasing interoperability with other GIS software programs. SHP files with polygons (area’s) can be used to create thematic maps in Excel E-Maps.
What is MapPoint?
Since 2000 organizations used Microsoft MapPoint for quick geographic insights. The tool had background maps for large parts of the world and for many countries you could geocode. The software and the maps had to be installed on a (network) harddrive.
People used MapPoint for quick geographic visualisations and analyses of their own MS Acces or Excel data. In selected countries routing was an option as well. By the end of 2014, Microsoft stopped developing MapPoint.
Excel E-Maps the successor of MapPoint
What comes after MapPoint is the easy to use, Excel mapping plug-in E-Maps. E-Maps provides worldwide advanced geocoding, based on address, postal code or city names. The Excel add-in is the best tool for GEO analysis with features like heatmap, choroplets and other thematic mapping. E-Maps uses the up-to-date map and geocoding engine from Here ™.
Isochrones and routing capabilities are available in E-Maps Mobility.
Dutch newspaper ‘Algemeen Dagblad’ has publicised her annual hospital test. You will find the results plotted on a map where you can find this years’ score in the outer circle and the results of 2013 in the inner.
Explanation of the used colors: The redder, the worse, the greener the better the score. In E-Maps we used two thematic maps with different diameter on top of each other.
New feature in e-maps: thematic legend
User adaptable colour and point size.
